Color Me Rad 5K Race Recap & Photos

by Glenneth on October 7, 2012

Hello! Here is my Color Me Rad Race Recap. Did see you my before and after photo? We woke up to a dreary morning. Got ready and headed to the starting line. They were right when they advised everyone to come early due to parking situations. Once we got off the interstate, we sat in line for about 30 minutes to park. At the time is was frustrating, but the wait was so worth it. I will say I found it interesting that there were police directing traffic off the interstate, but not into the actual parking lot (where the real lines were).

Our group consisted of me, hubby, our friend J, and our friends J and L. Here is my before picture and me and L before the race.

Here are a few before the race photos. Some people got the color bombs out before the race, others, like ourselves, waited for the actual race to get pretty! Check out the ladies in the tutus. I love them. If I get crafty, I am making one for The Color Run in Nashville.

As for the race itself, it was short (2.8 miles). I don’t think anyone actually minded. The point of the race was FUN and activity, not time. I will say I struggled through this one. It started up a very large hill and my muscles immediately tightened. Having walked a lot during the week, I knew the hill was the problem. If I start slow and flat, I can walk much longer without the pain in my calf. Thankfully L was willing to take it as slow as I needed – we were there for the fun.

Some of the color stations were powder that they threw at you. Two stations were liquid color that they sprayed on you. Those were COLD.

Check out the guys after the race! Since hubby has requested not to appear on my blog or Facebook (due to his job), he did say I could put this one up. He is in the middle.

L and I after the race!

After the race, color bombs just keep going off along with fun music. Everyone stayed, danced, and got colorful.

My after photos!

What a fabulous race! I am so excited that The Color Run is in two weeks! I am hoping that Color Me Rad will continue to return to Knoxville. We had a great morning.

In your opinion is Color Me Rad more for the fun of running and getting the color rather than your timing? I am going to do it this next February and was reading how color is dispersed every 20 minutes, that would mean someone running for time might only get hit once. I am not running for time, but I wanted to ask someone who has ran this 5k.

Hi Julie, both races are untimed and are for fun. Both start in waves because of the number of participants. Everyone gets color at all the color stops. I would not do them expecting a certain time but solely for fun.
