Dishing about Double Dogs!

by Glenneth on March 12, 2012

Knoxville used to be ranked in the Top 10 cities of restaurants per capita. While it seems to have dropped off that list, Knoxville still has a LOT of restaurants. We don’t try as many new places as we should; mainly because once we find a place with great food and service, we become very loyal customers. I sense that could be the case with the restaurant we tried this weekend.

Saturday night we tried a new (to us) restaurant in the Hardin Valley area called Double Dogs. Our friend A recommended Double Dogs to us as she had been (for the first time) the night before and loved it. Turns out Double Dogs has been open for fifteen months. Why I haven’t heard more about this place, I have no clue. I thought I would share some of my thoughts with you.

Double Dogs - Hardin Valley

Double Dogs - Hardin Valley

Double Dogs is simple to get to. Take the Hardin Valley exit from Pellissippi Parkway. If you are coming from Knoxville, turn right off the exit and take your first left. There you are!

While they looked packed before we even made it in the entrance, we were seated right away. They have a huge dining room and use every inch of it. The only negative I can say is that you are very close to the table(s) next to you.

They have TVs everywhere. We were sitting next to a wall that had 9 HUGE TVs – each with something different on. From sporting events, to TV shows, to local news programs. On a side note, we watched 6 Around Town and decided we definitely want to visit Wilderness at the Smokies and their new Adventure Forest.

Double Dogs is family friendly. There were lots of families, a few birthday parties, etc. There were also couples on date night and groups of adults. A little of everything.

Double Dogs - Beer on Tap

Looking for beer on tap? They have a very wide selection with approximately 15 beers on tap. Being that I don’t drink beer, this is not an issue for me, but hubby liked their selection.

Double Dogs - Peel and Eat Shrimp

We were excited (and surprised) to see Peel and Eat Shrimp on their menu. Definitely a healthy option and the price was excellent. $13.99 for a pound of delicious shrimp (chilled or hot) with cocktail sauce. Truly an excellent value if you have bought shrimp recently.

Double Dogs - BBQ Chicken Pizza

Later this week they are launching a new menu that will include 7 different kinds of pizza. They were passing around samples and we tried the BBQ Chicken Pizza. It was delicious. A and hubby also split a piece of the Veggie Pesto Pizza and loved it. We will definitely be visiting Double Dogs again for their new pizzas.

Double Dogs - Wings & Fries

Hubby and I decided to share a couple of dishes. First up was the Wings and Fries. We had Thai Garlic and Smokin’ Hot as our two flavors. We really think they would be perfect mixed together. They were yummy, good-sized wings. Personally we would have both liked hotter flavors, but I am sure they can accommodate us next time.

We also split a pound of the shrimp. Huge, beautiful shrimp chilled on a bed of ice. More places should offer this as an appetizer/meal. They offer the shrimp by the 1/2 pound and the pound.

Double Dogs - Caribbean Paradise

For dessert, I tried on of their frozen drinks – the Caribbean Paradise. It consisted of margarita, strawberry, mango, and rum. Being that I am a huge fan of frozen, fruit drinks – this was right up my alley.

The service was truly excellent. Our server was super friendly, answered any questions we had, and made sure we had everything we needed. Drinks were always refilled and we didn’t feel rushed (I believe we spent two hours there).

I highly recommend giving Double Dogs a try. We will definitely return.
