Tuesday's Thoughts: A Fitness Inspired Math Lesson

by Glenneth on July 5, 2011

I am guilty, like a lot of people, of claiming that there just isn’t enough time in the week to exercise. Per the Mayo Clinic, everyone should “aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.” So, I started playing with some math.

There are 10,080 minutes in a week (7 days x 24 hours x 60 minutes). If you work out 30 minutes a day, 7 days a week that is 210 minutes. That is only 2% of the minutes available in a week.

TWO PERCENT

So, to put this in perspective and break down even further:

If you work 8 hours per day – that is 33% of your week.
If you sleep 7 hours per day – that is 29% of your week.

That totals: 62% of your week.

Where are you spending that other 38% of time? Surely you can find 2% of your time for exercise. You are worth it! I am worth it! And our bodies need it!

Looking at these numbers (and pictures made of me over the 4th) has re-motivated me to do my 210 (and more) minutes per week.

Can you give yourself 2%?

love this..we always talk to our clients about being their own accountant when it comes to these matters. And the cool thing is that this is the only time you can put in less and take out more. Thank you for sharing. Shivie

When my friends tell me that they “can’t” exercise because they don’t have time, I ask them what their favorite television show is. Usually they name off 5-7 or more. Really? Either turn off the tube and go for a walk, or buy some hand weights and do some lifting while you are watching. The average American used to spend 5 hours a day watching television. I haven’t seen the latest stats that include daily internet and tv.
